Starting the Percussion CMS Server

Operating the Percussion CMS Server in Windows

When you install Percussion CMS on Windows, a CM1 service is automatically created. Like all Windows services, this service starts and stops automatically when you boot up and shut down the machine. If you need to start or stop the service manually, you can do so. See the documentation for your version of Windows for details about accessing services.

Starting the Percussion CMS Server as an Application

You can also start and run the Percussion CMS server as an application. Go to your installation directory (by default, the installation director is C:\Percussion) and double-click on PercussionCM.exe to start the CMS server.

Stopping the Percussion CMS Server When Running as an Application

When you start the Percussion CMS server, three processes actually start:

  • the integrated database server;
  • the Tomcat web application server that serves published content; and
  • the Percussion CMS server itself.

These processes actually run in the background, although the server console is displayed in a command prompt window. You can close this window; that action does not, however, stop the server.
To stop the server when it is running as an application, you must use the PercussionCMShutdown.bat batch file.

  1. Open a new command prompt window.
  2. Change to your installation directory (by default, the installation directory is C:\Percussion.
  3. Enter PercussionCMShutdown.bat and press the return key.
The batch file stops all three processes.

Operating the Percussion CMS Server on Linux

After installing Percussion CMS on Linux, you should run the script InstallDaemon.sh as root. This script installs the server daemon. Like all daemons, the CMS daemon starts and stops automatically when you boot up and shut down the machine. If you need to stop the daemon manually, change to the /Percussion/bin directory and enter the command

./RhythmyxDaemon stop <Percussion CM1 installation directory>

If you need to start the daemon manually, change to the /Percussion/bin directory and enter the command

./RhythmyxDaemon start (Percussion CM1 installation directory>

You can also run the server as an application displayed in a terminal window. Change to the /Percussion directory and enter the command

sh StartServer.sh
